Welcome back to our Founder Series. This time, we’re featuring five entrepreneurs who have grounded their businesses in sustainability and ethical craftsmanship. From eco-conscious timepieces to upcycled accessories, each founder uses innovative methods to tackle environmental challenges, showing how responsible business practices can resonate with today’s consumers.
In an increasingly fast-paced world, wellness and lifestyle brands are finding ways to slow down and focus on what truly matters. These five founders have each developed businesses that prioritize quality, connection, and purpose over mass production and rapid growth. Whether it’s by supporting the physical goals of endurance athletes, creating artisanal products that celebrate craftsmanship, or offering art that resonates on a personal level, these entrepreneurs are reshaping the way we think about lifestyle and wellness. Here’s how they’re enriching lives, building communities, and making a meaningful impact through their innovative approaches.
In an industry where convenience and speed often overshadow sustainability, these five founders are showing that online retail can have a conscience. Each of them has built a brand that prioritizes responsible sourcing, environmental impact, and lasting quality over fast profits. Whether it’s transforming waste into fashion or creating energy-efficient lighting solutions, these entrepreneurs are using e-commerce as a platform to drive positive change. Here’s how they’re combining business with purpose, turning ethical craftsmanship into a competitive advantage, and inspiring a new wave of consumer responsibility.
In a space where large-scale corporations and rapid algorithms dictate the pace, e-commerce may seem like an unlikely field for deeply personal, purpose-driven brands. But these five women are proving that e-commerce can be more than just a storefront; it can be a meaningful connection between brands and consumers. They’re showing that digital platforms can support ethical businesses that are as diverse as their founders, from cultural products and eco-friendly goods to personal wellness services. Each founder’s story is a testament to resilience and creativity in a rapidly evolving market.
In a world where consumer priorities are shifting toward sustainability, innovation, and meaningful connections, this week’s Founder Series showcases five UK entrepreneurs who are perfectly aligned with these changing expectations. From tackling climate change with carbon-negative products to offering creative ways for people to reconnect in a post-pandemic world, these founders are meeting the demands of a market that values purpose-driven businesses. Each has found a way to balance profitability with values, staying resilient through the challenges of modern entrepreneurship. And this is why we’re zooming in on these founders this week—to explore how their visions are not only contributing to their industries but also responding to the evolving needs of today’s consumers.
The UK e-commerce sector offers both exciting opportunities and significant challenges, as seen through the experiences of this week’s featured founders. From Jordan Sheppard’s innovative affiliate program at Voltsco to Aidan Farrell’s success in the electric bike market with Go Off-Road Barnsley & Wakefield, each entrepreneur has found a unique way to thrive. Lauretta and Sharon Gavin have made wellness accessible through their brand, Gavin Sisters, while Abigail Ahern continues to redefine home décor with Abigail Ahern Interiors. Meanwhile, Guy Bolton’s Greasy Kulture proves that print media still has a place in niche markets like custom motorcycles. These founders share their stories of overcoming cash flow issues, building loyal customer bases, and creating innovative solutions in their respective industries.
Though called an industry generally, and by us on the UNREAL Rockstars editorial team, e-commerce isn’t exactly an industry—rather, it functions as a point of sale for many industries. This dynamic makes the e-commerce landscape broad and explorative, spanning everything from colorful diamonds and shiny objects to the blended worlds of music and café life. And exactly this is what we have in store for this feature, starting with the lucrative diamond industry.

For Richard Cawkill, founder of The Sustainable Watch Company, building a sustainable brand was about more than selling a product. “I wanted to do something that makes a difference and run an enterprise that takes responsibility for its operations,” he shares. By creating eco-conscious timepieces, Richard aims to provide an appealing alternative to traditional watches without compromising on quality or design.
Richard’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to environmental responsibility led him to found The Sustainable Watch Company. He wanted to design products that offer “a quality and appealing alternative to a classic timepiece, without compromising on style or function.” The company’s mission, Richard explains, is to “be a business that places impact over profit and will continue to invest substantially in our sustainability pledge.”
The brand’s eco-friendly watches are crafted from recycled furniture and natural wood, showcasing Richard’s dedication to reducing waste while providing a stylish product. “We love showcasing what is possible when using sustainable materials to create attractive, unique, everyday styles,” he says. His goal is to provide consumers with a sustainable choice that fits seamlessly into their lives.
Juggling the demands of running a business alongside a full-time job has been challenging for Richard. “I often work 60-hour weeks,” he admits. Despite the long hours, his commitment to building a brand that “gives as much back to the planet as we can afford to” keeps him motivated.
Richard takes pride in the brand's ecological achievements, including planting over 4,650 trees, offsetting 126.5 tonnes of CO₂, and removing 3,700 plastic bottles from oceans. “We’re the helping hand on the journey to sustainable living,” he explains, inviting readers to explore their range at thesustainablewatchcompany.com, where choosing eco-friendly design aligns with impactful change.
At Paguro Upcycle, founder Yen Wei Goo creates contemporary accessories that transform waste into fashion. “Paguro is about seeing potential where others might see waste,” she says, reflecting the brand’s mission to produce stylish products from discarded materials. By working with artisans globally, Paguro combines sustainable materials with skilled craftsmanship.
Yen Wei grew up in Malaysia and later moved to the UK, where her fascination with fashion and different cultures shaped her career. After encountering a social enterprise in Southeast Asia that created accessories from repurposed materials, she found inspiration to “combine my love for fashion with my passion for sustainability.” Yen Wei’s brand showcases “the skill and creativity of talented artisans from across the globe.”
Paguro’s accessories, made from materials like inner tubes and bike chains, reflect a commitment to quality and environmental impact. “Our products are designed with an emphasis on creativity, quality, and uniqueness,” she says. Collaborating closely with artisans, Paguro produces items that stand out for both their design and ethical origins.
Yen Wei found that customer perceptions of upcycled products were a challenge. “People needed to see and feel our products to appreciate the craftsmanship and quality,” she explains. To address this, she relied on fairs and festivals to introduce customers to her products firsthand. “More recently, the economic climate has posed another challenge,” she adds, noting how consumer caution affects spending on quality, sustainable goods.
Building Paguro has brought Yen Wei a deep sense of pride. “I’m especially proud of the relationships we’ve built with artisans and social enterprises around the world,” she says. Paguro’s journey from a small idea to a recognized brand underscores the importance of ethical business practices.
For Cesidio Di Ciacca, founder of Soc. Agr. I Ciacca srl, winemaking isn’t just a business—it’s a legacy. “We make great wine from a unique grape grown here in Picinisco by my family for over 500 years,” he shares. His vineyard honors his Italian heritage and uses sustainable practices to protect the land for future generations, combining tradition with modern technology, such as drones for precision spraying.
After a successful career in law and business, Cesidio returned to Italy to rebuild his family’s vineyard, which had been abandoned for decades. His focus on sustainability aligns with his desire to preserve the natural beauty and agricultural heritage of the region. “The more I delved into the history, the more I became convinced that I had the opportunity, resources, contacts, and experience to build something for the future,” he reflects.
The vineyard emphasizes organic farming and sustainable winemaking. Located in Val di Comino, the first organic district in Lazio, they produce organic wine and local products. Through their online shop, Soc. Agr. I Ciacca srl offers a range of regional specialties, including wines, olive oil, and artisanal goods, enabling customers to access these sustainable products globally. “We are proud to share the rich heritage of our land through products crafted with care and respect for the environment,” Cesidio explains.
Italian bureaucracy and the COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges for Cesidio. “In fact, the biggest problem was COVID, where we lost 2+ years of marketing,” he shares, adding that the pandemic impacted his ability to build momentum for his brand.
One of Cesidio’s proudest achievements is having his children join him in Italy to help run the business. His family’s involvement reinforces the vineyard’s legacy and the commitment to producing quality wine that celebrates regional heritage.
Daniel Reynolds started Dynamo LED Displays to offer innovative, energy-efficient LED solutions for businesses and events worldwide. “We help businesses and individuals communicate their message in a powerful and engaging way,” he explains, emphasizing his brand’s focus on creativity and customization.
Raised between East London and Essex, Daniel’s early passion for technology led him to create Dynamo LED Displays. His experience with computers and LED technology inspired him to develop cutting-edge visual displays, from high-end event rentals to permanent installations. “We’re not afraid to push the boundaries and embrace innovation,” he says, highlighting the company’s mission to offer unique solutions.
The company specializes in bespoke LED installations, transforming spaces through vibrant, dynamic visuals. “We were the first in the UK to create fully front-access LED video walls, integrate LED displays into shop fronts, and even mount them on hot air balloons,” Daniel explains, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to standing out in the industry.
One of Daniel’s biggest challenges was managing rapid growth without compromising on quality. “It was a delicate balancing act,” he recalls, explaining that scaling his team and investing in training were essential steps to maintaining the high standards Dynamo is known for.
A notable project in Muscat, Oman, where Daniel’s team constructed massive LED towers, remains a proud moment for him. The complex project, which involved building from individual modules, exemplified Dynamo’s capacity for innovation and dedication to quality.
For Chris Streeter, founder of ODB Wraps, creativity and personal expression are at the heart of his brand. “ODB is about personal expression,” he shares. His custom battery wraps allow users to transform functional devices into personalized statements, combining art with functionality.
Chris’s creative journey began in Brighton, a city known for its vibrant arts scene. Inspired by his surroundings and driven by a passion for design, he founded ODB Wraps to offer customers the chance to express their individuality. “The inspiration behind ODB didn’t come from a traditional business plan, but from a spontaneous idea,” he says.
ODB’s custom wraps not only protect vaping devices but also serve as a platform for self-expression. “We don’t just make functional products; we create designs that allow people to express their individuality through something as simple as a battery,” Chris explains, positioning his brand as a creative force within the vaping industry.
Dealing with counterfeiting, particularly in international markets, has been a difficult challenge for Chris. “It was a tough realization that people were using my trademark and branding to make millions off my work,” he shares. In response, he focuses on continuous innovation, developing new designs to keep his brand one step ahead.
For Chris, the community he has built around ODB Wraps is a source of pride. His brand has grown into a recognizable name with a loyal customer base that values creativity and personal expression. “ODB has evolved from a spontaneous idea into something much bigger than I ever imagined,” he reflects.
These founders illustrate that sustainability and craftsmanship are more than just values—they’re powerful drivers of innovation in today’s e-commerce landscape. Richard Cawkill’s Sustainable Watch Company reimagines timekeeping with eco-friendly materials, while Yen Wei Goo’s Paguro Upcycle turns waste into one-of-a-kind fashion statements. Cesidio Di Ciacca’s vineyard merges heritage and organic practices to preserve a family legacy, Daniel Reynolds’ Dynamo LED Displays brings energy-efficient visual solutions to a digital age, and Chris Streeter’s ODB Wraps gives customers a way to creatively express themselves. Each of these founders shows that responsible business practices can meet—and elevate—consumer expectations, proving that e-commerce can be both ethical and successful. Together, they’re setting a new standard for what it means to create with purpose in the digital marketplace.
